Roses' privileged location has been the factor that has defined its unique history down through the ages. The bay is a natural harbour that has sheltered all kinds of expeditions, some of which came from the lands lying furthest to the east in the Mediterranean . Here, too, nature has played a key role; since time immemorial it has generously provided both local inhabitants and new arrivals with the sustenance that has enabled them to survive and, therefore, settle in the area.
This symbiosis between Nature and History has given rise to a rich tapestry in which each era and each civilisation have left its mark. There is a Neolithic, Greek, Roman, Visigoth, medieval and modern presence in Roses. Over the years, Roses has grown from being a fishing and trading port to become also a fascinating and attractive tourist resort, with all kinds of services and facilities to ensure visitors enjoy their stay.
